SEBAN (South East Business Angel Network) hosts successful Investor Forum in Waterford

SEBAN, the South East Business Angel Network, part of the Halo Business Angel Network (HBAN) and managed in the south east by South East BIC, hosted its first investor forum of 2017 in Waterford on Monday, March 27th. HBAN is a joint initiative of InterTradeIreland and Enterprise Ireland, and managed regionally by the Irish BICs.

Four client companies, prepared by the team at South East BIC, pitched to a group of angel investors from across the region and who are members of the South East Business Angel Network. The companies included a Waterford-based fintech company whose platform enables retailers to make it easier for their customers to access goods and services with partial payments, a Wexford-based interactive social and trading platform, a new drink brand from County Waterford using an innovative cold-brewing process to bring the worlds of coffee and whiskey together and a Waterford-based SaaS service that uses cloud computing and big data collection for improved customer engagement.
HBAN Business angels invested €13.6m in 50 Irish start-ups in 2016, up 25pc on the previous year. These investments leveraged a further €20.5m from other public and private funds, bringing the total invested to €34.1m. The average angel investment last year was €272,000, considerably higher than the 2015 average of €217,000. Since inception in 2007, HBAN angels have invested €73m in 362 separate deals. When the €113m invested by other funds in those deals is added, this is an overall total of €186m invested in Irish start-ups in the last 10 years. SEBAN saw €1.6m invested in 6 deals, bringing the total invested since 1997 to €11.4m in 35 deals.
